36 remains of unidentified US Marines killed on Japanese island in WWII returned to America The soldiers' remains were found on the remote Pacific atoll of Tarawa - an island chain which set the stage for one of the conflict's fiercest battles in 1943, claiming more than 6,000 lives in three days.
